Useful Hungarian phrases and their meanings

How are you?

Hogy = how; vagy = you are. Use this with someone you address informally.

I am well, thank you.

Jól = well; vagyok = I am; köszönöm = thank you.

And you?

És = and; te = you, singular and informal.

I am well too.

Én = I; is = too; jól = well; vagyok = I am. Is follows the word it adds to.

How the sentence works

Vagy means you are; vagyok means I am. Hungarian often leaves out én (I) and te (you), because the verb ending tells you who is speaking.
